We stayed in the Wine Press House, Gavalohori in June 2013, where we had the most fantastic time! We followed the directions that were sent to us and arrived at the house without a hitch. What can I say, there was everything we needed and more.

On our first morning we were greeted by the sounds of goat bells tinkling in the distance, sheep baaing nearby, cocks crowing and the odd bark from a dog. A slow walk down to the village to buy fresh bread etc from the bakery, then breakfast on the balcony. Almerida beach and tavernas are a five minute drive away, we used the beach at Kalives, five more minutes further on, where there were always plenty of sun-loungers by a beach bar, sandy beach and local people, (no tourists). Tavernas where we had lunch with varied menus, good prices and lovely food.

We had a car for the two weeks and explored most days, there are so many places to visit and amazing mountain drives. The taverna in the village, Monicas was very good, we would have a couple of beers at the bar in the square first, where the old guys were friendly, one elderly man who was a regular there, lived next door to the wine press house and we gave him a lift to Almerida on several occasions.

Sitting in the very private courtyard was heaven, listening to the secardas and drinking local wine in the evenings. We went to Vamos to eat a few times where the Taverna had fantastic food and entertainment, Wednesdays and Saturdays.

After a long, hot day touring, returning to the house felt like we were arriving home. We would not hesitate to recommend a holiday here, we are planning on returning if not this year then next. Only one complaint, staying here has totaly spoilt the idea of going on a package trip again, there was no sitting on suitcases having been turfed out of the apartment at mid day, no transfers, stopping off at umpteen other places en route, no unsociable music or other noise coming from nearby apartments. Just a stress-free, relaxing holiday in a beautiful house and in a lovely part of Crete. Thank you Alan and Jo.

P.S. We took some of your lemons, ones on the ground, to put in our Pimms.
