The Olive Picker’s House. What a gem! Set on the outskirts of the quaint village of Gavalohori, the Olive pickers is a unique Cretan house reached through a tranquil courtyard ablaze with flowering Bougainvillea and Jasmine, also the orange, lemon/lime and fig trees which were there for us to pick. The house is quaint, bright and tastefully furnished, with everything we needed for a fortnight’s stay, it was immaculate. A few minutes walk is the village which has a number of excellent tavernas, a very good bakery and two small grocery shops. It also boasts a very small but interesting museum. Gavalohori is a wonderful place for walking, cycling or just enjoying nature. A 5-minute drive is Almyrida with many excellent Tavernas that line the beach. whether you want a quiet meal or something livelier you are spoilt for choice.

The local people where very friendly, helpful and generous with the invitations to village parties. Some of our most memorable evenings where spent under the stars in the quiet and privacy of the courtyard with just the distant sound of sheep bells whilst we enjoyed a cretian meal and a glass of wine-Priceless! For those wanting to de-stress and recharge their batteries, this is the place. By the way the pictures do not do it justice. A big thank you to Alan and Jo for allowing us to have a very memorable and enjoyable experience we will be back again.
