We visited in September in 2018 with friends and occupied both cottages. This was a superb holiday destination offering everything required for a modern life in traditional cottages. The Cottages are set in a rural Cretan village with plenty of nice local restaurants offering great food choices within a few minutes’ walk. Local sandy beaches and quiet coves are only a very short drive away from the village, and Chania can be reached in 30-40 minutes for those wanting a larger historic town with shopping and tourist attractions.

We split our stay up to include a couple of days quiet relaxation, reading and chatting on the terrace, along with a full day in Chania, and some beach visits for some swimming and sun. Another trip to this beautiful place is already being planned for 2019.

Via recommendations, we opted to stay at the Wine Press for our first holiday in Crete. The premises have been sensitively restored to reflect the village atmosphere of Gavalohori yet feature the facilities expected of a 21 st Century home; there’s even an alfresco shower! We plan to return soon.

Rating: Excellent. I went on holiday with our friends from Guernsey and found the accommodation to include everything we needed – even a corkscrew – The village shops provided all our daily requirements and the four tavernas in the village gave us excellent meals and evening entertainment.

My parents and husband and I stayed in the Olive Pickers for ten days, where each day we indulged in extended breakfasts in our private courtyard, took daily drives to the nearby beach, the villages clinging to the southern coast of Crete or ancient ruins peppering…

Rating: Excellent. The Wine Press – fabulous cottage in Crete. I have long wanted to re-visit Crete, having spent a weekend on the island twenty years ago. This time I would be there solo – for 5 days of self-indulgent relaxation. I envisaged sunshine, lazy lunches, long walks and beautiful…
